Savory French Toast with Wild Mushrooms and Caramelized Bacon
Ingredients
For The French Toast
½ cup Half and Half Cream
1 tbsp butter (for cooking the French toast)
For the Wild Mushrooms:
1 cup assorted wild mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
1 tbsp butter
For the Caramelized Bacon
1 tbsp Brown Sugar
For Garnish
Fresh chives, Chopped
Directions
Prepare the Caramelized Bacon:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the bacon slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over each slice of bacon.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and caramelized.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
Prepare the Savory Custard:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the beaten egg, half-and-half cream, grated Parmesan cheese, McCormick Garlic Powder, salt, and pepper.
Cook the French Toast:
- Heat 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Dip each slice of French bread into the savory custard, ensuring both sides are well-coated.
- Place the coated bread slices in the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from the skillet and keep warm.
Cook the Wild Mushrooms
- In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp butter and melt over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and fresh thyme leaves, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the sliced wild mushrooms, salt, and pepper.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are tender and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes
Assemble the Dish:
- Place the cooked French toast slices on a plate.
- Top with the sautéed wild mushrooms.
- Garnish with chopped fresh chives.
Serve with Caramelized Bacon:
- Serve the savory French toast with the caramelized bacon slices on the side.
